Providing effective relief from the symptoms of acute and chronic rhinosinusitis, Sinupret® relieve sinusitis symptoms including nasal and mild upper respiratory tract congestion, sinus inflammation, nasal discharge, impaired breathing, decreased sense of smell due to congestion and reduces sinus headache duration.[1]
A closer look
The nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses are lined with a mucous membrane which consists of ciliated epithelium. These are millions of cells with mobile cilia (cilia) that lie close together like grass.
Between the cilia are individual mucus-forming goblet cells that produce a watery secretion that surrounds the cilia. The thin secretion is then covered by a viscous layer of mucus, in which dirt, dust and pathogens can easily get trapped.
To rid itself of foreign bodies and to protect itself from infections, our respiratory system has an effective, natural self-cleaning mechanism, which is also known as “mucociliary clearance”.
In the liquid layer of secretion, the cilia beat rhythmically and transport the mucus lying above it, together with the dirt and dust particles or pathogens trapped in it, towards the throat or mouth. Here the mucus is either swallowed or transported out of the body by sneezing and coughing.
When the mucous membrane becomes inflamed as part of a cold, it produces more thicker mucus and the rhythmic activity of the cilia decreases, stopping the self-cleaning mucociliary clearance. The secretion is no longer transported away properly, leading to a blocked nose or congestion.
From a cold to sinusitis
If the mucous nasal secretion can no longer drain sufficiently, the risk of the narrow connecting passages between the main nasal passages and paranasal sinuses becoming clogged also increases. The result is a classic chain reaction: the accumulation of mucus leads to poorer ventilation of the sinuses, which makes it easier for pathogens to spread, leading to acute inflammation of the paranasal sinuses (sinusitis).
How Sinupret® works
With its unique combination of the five plants, Sinupret® has a broad spectrum of pharmacological properties tailored to treat acute and chronic sinusitis. The five-plant formula contains highly effective bioflavonoids, which are common secondary plant ingredients that form an important part of herbal medicine. These bioflavonoids are responsible for hydrating nasal secretion and reactivating the ‘rhythmic’ movement of the cilia; thus promoting the removal of mucus and reducing inflammation of the sinus lining.
Available as coated tablets (for adults and children 12 years and over) or syrup (for adults and children 2 years and over), Sinupret provides effective relief from the symptoms of sinusitis by reducing the discomfort, duration and inflammation caused by sinusitis.
Together with antibiotics, decongestants and saline irrigation – Sinupret® significantly improves the effectiveness of sinusitis treatment.[2-4]
